Description
These left and right heavy-duty live axle conversion brackets are designed for universal air suspension installations where no vehicle-specific kit is available. Supplied as a complete set of four pieces – two upper mounts and two lower bag mounts – they provide a strong and reliable foundation for custom suspension work on classic cars, hot rods, and other projects.
Manufactured from super-thick 6mm steel and folded for strength, these brackets are extremely durable and easy to weld. They are intended to be welded directly to a steel axle (almost all axles are steel, but it is worth checking) or to flat bar if you prefer to create a bolt-on option. Because these are universal parts, they will rarely be a direct fit for any single vehicle, but instead serve as a very strong and adaptable starting point.
Top Brackets
The top brackets are designed to sit against a flat chassis and provide a full 25mm (1 inch) of clearance around the rear and sides, ensuring that the airbag can expand without restriction. The bag mounting holes are offset to give additional clearance from the chassis or frame, helping the bags sit correctly in a wider variety of applications. A large clearance hole is included for the air fitting and it is offset to match the common port locations used on these bags, with space for the 90-degree fittings that are often used. For heavier-duty builds, we recommend welding an upright lip of 10 – 20mm along the edge of at least 3mm thickness (not supplied), where space permits, to give additional strength. These brackets are intended for use with ContiTech, Firestone, Universal Air and F9000 bags in 2500, 2600, and 2800 sizes, and the common Firestone F9000 type bag, although they can also be used with other makes.
Lower Brackets
The lower brackets are cut for a 3 inch (75mm) axle as standard, but can be opened out by the installer to suit larger diameters, including 4 inch (100mm) and beyond. They are designed to sit slightly above the axle tube to provide correct bolt access and clearance for brake lines, wiring, and breathers.
Custom Options
If using Boss airbags, additional end plates are required and some extra welding may be necessary. For specialist projects, we also produce a wide range of dedicated and custom brackets. Individual top and bottom brackets can be purchased separately, so you can mix and match as needed. If you require one-off universal brackets, we can manufacture these from customer-supplied patterns, although this depends on workshop and production schedules and is not a quick service. Since all our brackets are made in Norfolk, we have the full facilities to adapt, design, and produce new items to your requirements. We cannot supply them for a specific vehicle without the vehicle being present, but can manufacture brackets if templates, patterns or designs are provided.
Installation
To install this product you will usually need a welder and grinder at the very least. For more major modifications it may be necessary to redrill, or cut pieces off the brackets – within reason they are designed for this type of work.
Because they are laser cut and pre-folded, these brackets will often save more than their cost in reduced workshop time, especially in commercial environments. The combination of strength, adaptability, and labour-saving design makes them one of the most practical solutions available when a dedicated kit is not available.
